Dr John Wells to play in Waipu

Post on behalf of FOTO.

In an honour for Bream Bay, acclaimed Auckland-based organist, Dr John Wells will play an organ concert at St. Peter’s Church on Sunday 26 July at 2pm. Among the pieces he plans is Bach’s beautiful “Air on a G String” (Wells’ own arrangement).

FOTO’s Music Director, Anne Connolly-Munt said “It will be a great privilege to hear John play and I urge all who can to save the time and date!”

John has given concerts throughout NZ, and also Australia, the UK, USA and Europe. He has worked extensively with choirs. He was Deputy Conductor of the NZ Youth Choir under Peter Godfrey and Karen Grylls and Director of the Australian & New Zealand College of Organists. John made NZ’s first organ CD and claims to be the only organist ever to have presented a concert in a woolshed! He has taught privately throughout his career and was an examiner for the Associated Board for many years. John was made a Fellow of the NZ Association of Organists in recognition of his services to organ music.

A section of the concert will feature vocal performances by child pupils of Emma Couper.
